In this deep conversation between Andreas Morawietz, Global Head of the eSIM & Solutions Portfolio at Giesecke+Devrient (G+D), and George Malim, Managing Editor of IoT Now, uncover G+D’s favourable position towards SGP.32. Since SGP.02 launched, the landscape has changed drastically. IoT devices are far more complex with widely varying data communication requirements, and the velocity of IoT deployments is faster & more fragmented than ever before.

In this interview, you’ll explore:

  • The reason for this new specification – Moving on from SGP.22, SGP.32 will add scope for massive volumes alongside flexibility, simplicity and ease of use while being device-centric.
  • What constraints and requirements exist – The specification needed to accommodate IoT devices that are network-constrained, power-constrained or user interface-constrained by intention; work well under 5G and encompass protocols for processing like message queueing telemetry transport (MQTT), lightweight M2M (LwM2M), constrained application protocol (CoAP) and HTTP.
  • Moving to SGP.32 – Working with someone like G+D can make this a more frictionless process, in SGP.22, they provided their managing-DP+ to IoT players, which allowed devices to be managed remotely, and they’re now defining the SGP.32 specifications to enable remote management in the IoT context highlighting, for example, the need for an eSIM IoT Remote Manager (eIM) as an independent new service in addition to the SM-DP+.
  • The benefits of the new specification – Andreas explains that both the GSMA specification and the services to enable it are available, and there is no need to wait. SGP.32 is in the adoption phase amongst device makers, utilities and the industrial segment, and with this new standardised approach, it’s under 12 weeks for an OEM to have a device designed, tested and ready to deploy; rapidly speeding TTM.

Learn why G+D believes this specification is reducing TCO and amplifying TTM while providing new avenues for OEMs and IoT service providers to position themselves in the overall value chain. Click the button to read this feature now.
