Semtech Corporation, a provider of a semiconductors, IoT systems, and cloud connectivity service solutions, has released two new LoRa Gen 4 transceivers, built on the LR2021 transceiver. The devices are available in versions that can be tailored to specific use-cases.

The LR2022 dual-band and LR2012 sub-GHz transceivers run on fourth-generation LoRa technology, and working in various deployment situations.

There has been significant market interest in fourth-generation LoRa performance technology since Semtech launched the LR2021 in March 2025, with its data transmission speeds of up to 2.6 Mbps and low power use.

This latest expansion of the Gen 4 product line up can be deployed for AI-driven edge devices that need to send images quickly, and in standard sensor networks.

Madhu Rayabhari, senior vice president and general manager of the analogue mixed signal and wireless products group at Semtech, said customers can “select the capabilities they need without paying for features they won’t use. Whether that’s multi-PHY capability for legacy system integration, dual-band operation for global coverage with a single SKU, or sub-GHz radio with best-in-class link budget, customers can standardise on a single architecture.”

The LoRa Gen 4 transceivers are purpose-built to provide high data rates using short-range protocols. The company says they offer better range, superior link quality at low price, and resistance to interference in tough environments. It says they are ideal for industrial applications and extended outdoor deployments where long-range, reliable connectivity is essential.

Semtech states that all the SKUs have better radio performance with LoRa and FSK, support efficient Channel Activity Detection and multiple spreading factors, and are backward-compatible with more than 450 million LoRa devices.

The latest product line up is designed for applications that might include AI-powered security cameras, drone communication systems, audio classification devices, battery-powered sensors for predictive maintenance, and image recognition.

LR2021 production is scheduled to begin in October 2025, although samples are currently available for potential buyers. The LR2022 and LR2012 devices are expected to be available in the first and second quarters of 2026, respectively.
