CBS News’ flagship evening broadcast, CBS Evening News, will look remarkably different in 2026 after the remaining co-host, Maurice DuBois, announced he will be departing the program on December 18.
DuBois, who was paired with John Dickerson on CBS Evening News, had been in his current role for less than one year. He broke the news of his departure to staffers on Thursday morning, saying, “December 18th is the day of my last broadcast at CBS News.”
Noting that it was an honor of a lifetime to be delivering the news at CBS News for 21 years, including at WCBS-TV, the New York City affiliate, DuBois added, “What a privilege! To be welcomed into your homes night after night, delivering the news / meeting extraordinary people, and telling their stories.”
“Maurice has long represented what we do best at CBS News and Stations,” Tom Cibrowski, president and executive editor, CBS News, said in a statement. “We are grateful for his significant contributions at both CBS News New York and the CBS Evening News. Maurice is deeply valued and respected as a journalist by all of us, and we wish him much success.”
DuBois is the latest major talent to leave CBS News. This signals a major revamp on the horizon for CBS Evening News, which now falls under the purview of Bari Weiss, the news network’s new editor-in-chief.
Dickerson, who announced his departure in October, is remaining with CBS News “until the holidays, when he says farewell,” according to Cibrowski.
This will be the second major revamp of the news program in less than a year, but this version of CBS Evening News has not moved the needle, remaining in third place in the ratings. It also failed to find a proper footing after the sudden exit of Bill Owens, who oversaw the program, in April
