TXOne Networks has introduced Virtual Portable Inspector, a software-based OT inspection tool designed for industrial environments where physical inspection is difficult to scale.

The product extends TXOne’s Element inspection portfolio into connected and distributed OT environments, including sites spread across multiple locations, assets without accessible USB interfaces or HMIs, and facilities where on-site inspection adds deployment overhead.

Software-based inspection for distributed OT sites

TXOne said Virtual Portable Inspector is designed for connected and distributed OT environments, including geographically distributed sites and assets that are difficult to inspect physically.

TXOne said OT inspection commonly takes place during scheduled maintenance windows, manual checks, or physical access to equipment. Virtual Portable Inspector is intended to support inspection across distributed assets without requiring persistent software deployment, system rebooting, or configuration changes.

OT inspection carries different constraints from standard IT endpoint management. NIST defines OT as systems and devices that monitor or control physical processes, and says OT security must account for performance, reliability, and safety requirements.

TXOne said vPI avoids installation, reboots, and configuration changes, which can be important in OT environments where production continuity, reliability, and safety are operational priorities.

The tool is designed to perform malware scanning, asset intelligence collection, and device integrity validation across connected OT assets. These functions are managed through ElementOne, allowing inspection activities to scale across hundreds of endpoints from a single console.

TXOne lists asset intelligence collection alongside malware scanning and device integrity validation as part of vPI’s inspection activities. CISA says OT asset inventory involves identifying, classifying, and documenting assets, while NSA says the process supports an OT system taxonomy and a modern defensible architecture.

IT/OT constraints and asset visibility

As OT assets become connected and centrally managed, TXOne said industrial organisations need inspection methods that do not depend only on technicians visiting equipment in person.

ISA says the ISA/IEC 62443 series defines requirements and processes for securing industrial automation and control systems, bridging operations and information technology, as well as process safety and cybersecurity.

TXOne said Virtual Portable Inspector follows the same inspection model used in its Portable Inspector product. The company said the technology has also been used for more than two years in semiconductor manufacturing environments through its Fab Tool Scan program.

According to TXOne, deployments using this inspection approach have reduced inspection cycle time, including malware scanning and asset intelligence collection, by 50% in high-throughput OT environments.

The software-based design is intended for production-critical environments where installing agents or changing system settings can create operational concerns. TXOne said the tool requires no installation, no reboot, and no system configuration changes.

TXOne said avoiding installation, reboots, and configuration changes allows inspection without triggering revalidation requirements, voiding vendor warranties, or affecting production workloads. The company said the software-based approach also allows inspection to be carried out on connected assets that are not easily accessible through physical inspection methods.

TXOne also cited regulatory and audit requirements, including SEMI E187. The standard raises expectations around asset inventory accuracy, device integrity validation, and inspection auditability in OT environments.

SEMI E187 defines baseline cybersecurity requirements for semiconductor fab equipment, covering areas such as operating system support, network security, endpoint protection, and security monitoring.

Related SEMI guidance also addresses malware-free equipment integration. SEMI E188 provides a framework to reduce malware propagation to manufacturing facilities during capital equipment delivery and support activities, including installation, upgrades, support tasks, and access through networks or removable media.

From periodic checks to recurring validation

TXOne said Virtual Portable Inspector supports recurring inspection across connected assets rather than limiting checks to annual maintenance periods or quarterly inspection windows. The company said organisations can run inspections weekly or daily without dispatching technicians or interrupting production.

“For most OT environments today, inspection happens once a year during scheduled maintenance — or once a quarter at best,” said Dr. Terence Liu, CEO of TXOne Networks. “vPI lets organisations run that same trusted inspection across every connected OT asset weekly, or even daily, without dispatching technicians or disrupting production.”

The product connects with ElementOne and SenninOne, TXOne’s management and governance platforms. Inspection data from Virtual Portable Inspector can flow into SenninOne for organisations using TXOne Complete, while ElementOne handles per-product management.

SenninOne is TXOne’s cross-product governance platform for aggregating security intelligence across OT environments. ElementOne is used to distribute and manage the inspection activity for the Element portfolio.

Inspection data can support asset visibility, integrity checks, malware detection, and governance across sites where OT assets are connected but not always physically accessible.

The Element portfolio is built around inspection, validation, and integrity assessment workflows for OT environments where persistent endpoint deployment is not operationally practical. Virtual Portable Inspector extends that model to connected and distributed parts of the OT environment.

TXOne said Virtual Portable Inspector will be available in mid-July 2026 through the company and its global partner network. The product is designed to help industrial teams validate device integrity, collect asset data, and inspect for malware without changing the underlying production systems.
