Telemundo celebrated the 25th anniversary of legendary soccer commentator Andrés Cantor with a special on-air tribute during its live coverage of the FIFA World Cup qualifier between Argentina and Brazil on March 25.

April 1 officially marks Cantor’s 25th year with Telemundo, a milestone that recognizes his contributions to sports broadcasting.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential voices in soccer, Cantor has shaped the way millions of fans experience the game across the U.S. and Latin America. His unmistakable voice, passionate storytelling, and iconic “GOOOOL!” call have made him a household name, earning him eight Emmy Awards and a place in the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

“Andrés has made his mark on the world of sports broadcasting, and for the last 25 years, he has been the front and center to our soccer coverage, bringing unforgettable moments to our viewers with his passion, knowledge, and unmistakable goal call,” said Joaquin Duro, executive vice president of Sports, Telemundo. “We are grateful for his dedication and look forward to creating many more memories together, especially as we prepare for the historic upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.”

Cantor has worked for Telemundo since 2000. Currently, he serves as one of the network’s leading soccer commentators for Telemundo’s broadcast of the Premier League, US Soccer, all FIFA events and CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers. He has played a major role in the network’s Olympic Games coverage and made history as lead commentator and anchor for Telemundo’s exclusive Spanish-language coverage of FIFA, particularly after his iconic goal call of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM final.

“I am forever grateful to Telemundo and NBC for allowing me to have the best seat in the house in the most important sporting events of the last quarter century to be able to share my passion to our fans,” said Cantor. “The journey continues as I look forward to play a big role in what will be the historic FIFA World Cup 2026.”

To commemorate his legacy, Telemundo presented a special tribute to Cantor during its Argentina vs. Brazil coverage, highlighting unforgettable moments that shaped his career with surprise guests and messages from friends and family, and several soccer personalities. Telemundo Deportes commentary team joined the celebration surprising him in studio during the pregame and halftime show.

The network celebration was extended beyond the Qualifier and across platforms with special features and segments on news and entertainment shows honoring Cantor’s career.
