Google Cloud’s generative AI technology Gemini will be integrated into Ballie, the upcoming home companion robot from Samsung.

Set for consumer release this summer, Ballie aims to transform household management through natural, conversational interactions—adjusting lighting, greeting visitors, personalising schedules, and setting reminders.

The collaboration builds on last year’s integration of Gemini on Google Cloud into Samsung’s modern smartphones, marking a strategic push to embed generative AI across a broader range of devices.

Ballie will leverage Gemini’s multimodal reasoning alongside Samsung’s proprietary language models to process audio, visual, and environmental data to enable real-time behavioural adaptations.

Samsung and Google aim to redefine home AI

Yongjae Kim, Executive ViP of the Visual Display Business at Samsung, commented: “Through this partnership, Samsung and Google Cloud are redefining the role of AI in the home.

“By pairing Gemini’s powerful multimodal reasoning with Samsung’s AI capabilities in Ballie, we’re leveraging the power of open collaboration to unlock a new era of personalised AI companion — one that moves with users, anticipates their needs and interacts in more dynamic and meaningful ways than ever before.”

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, added: “With Gemini on Google Cloud, Samsung is demonstrating how to deploy generative AI at scale, integrating it directly into the heart of their popular product.

“This expanded partnership with Samsung underscores our commitment to delivering reliable, enterprise-grade AI that drives lasting value for our customers – and their customers.”

Google Gemini teaches Samsung Ballie multimodal skills

Ballie’s integration of Gemini allows it to interpret diverse inputs, from voice commands to camera feeds.

For example, users can ask, “Hey Ballie, how do I look?” and receive styling tips, such as pairing accessories or opting for a colourful shirt. The robot’s sensors and AI models enable contextual awareness, adjusting responses based on real-time environmental data.

Health and wellbeing support is another focal point. If a user says, “I feel tired today,” Ballie can draw on Gemini’s grounding in Google Search to suggest exercise routines, sleep optimisation strategies, or dietary adjustments from trusted sources.

A leap from phones to robots

The partnership signals Samsung’s ambition to position generative AI at the core of its ecosystem. Following Gemini’s deployment in the company’s modern smartphones, Ballie represents a leap into ambient computing—where AI seamlessly blends into daily life.

Industry analysts note the move aligns with growing demand for proactive smart home assistants. Unlike static voice aides, Ballie’s mobility and multimodal skills could set a new benchmark for personalised home AI.

Ballie’s summer release will test consumer appetite for AI-driven home companions. For now, the duo’s vision is clear: merging hardware innovation with generative AI to create intuitive, adaptive tools that redefine modern living.
