Lyft has announced multiple partnerships to connect users with autonomous vehicle (AV) rides from within its app.

In its latest move towards delivering AV solutions to a wider audience, Lyft has announced a collaboration self-driving technology and advanced driver assistance systems provider Mobileye.

Lyft intends to integrate Mobileye-equipped vehicles into its platform, offering fleet operators – regardless of size – easy access to its extensive network of riders and allowing them to optimise their AV fleets.

Professor Amnon Shashua, President and CEO of Mobileye, said: “Cooperating with leading mobility providers and operators is an essential step to bring autonomous mobility services to reality.

“Enabling Mobileye Drive with Lyft’s network of 40 million annual riders in North America would allow our AV customers to reach new markets and geographies with autonomous services and provide the benefits of the technology through a sustainable business.”

This partnership with Mobileye creates a fresh distribution avenue for AVs. Alongside Mobileye, Lyft is addressing various aspects of the AV value chain through alliances with May Mobility and Nexar.

May Mobility is set to introduce AVs onto the Lyft platform in Atlanta by 2025. Riders in the city will have the opportunity to travel in autonomous Toyota Sienna minivans, equipped with May Mobility’s technology. Both companies aim to scale this deployment over time, potentially expanding to additional markets.

To enhance autonomous technology development, Lyft will collaborate with Nexar. The partnership will leverage anonymised fleet and marketplace data, combining it with Nexar’s extensive video footage library. Together, they hope to create a comprehensive dataset that will aid in the evolution of safer and more reliable autonomous technologies.

David Risher, CEO of Lyft, commented: “We’re thrilled to work with Mobileye, May Mobility, and Nexar to build the autonomous future together, with more partnerships to follow.

“Lyft’s aim is to connect AVs, drivers, riders, and partners to create new opportunities for all. Our rideshare network will continue to evolve as millions of people will have the opportunity to earn billions of dollars, whether they choose to drive, put their AVs into service, or both.”

Lyft’s network offers a pathway for AVs to scale and allows partners to monetise their technologies effectively. The platform, with its access to 40 million annual riders, provides fleet management that optimises the on-boarding, off-boarding, and maintenance of vehicles.

The “Lyft-ready” model represents a turnkey solution, enabling seamless autonomous vehicle deployment in Lyft’s marketplace, facilitating commercialisation, and maximising vehicle usage.
