The LoRaWAN ecosystem is seeing increased momentum as the LoRa Alliance announces new leadership appointments while Cellnex UK and Netmore forge ahead with major infrastructure expansion plans.

The LoRa Alliance has appointed Alper Yegin as CEO and Olivier Beaujard as board chair as the organisation prepares for what it terms the “hockey stick ramp” phase of hyperscaling deployment. The leadership changes come as LoRaWAN – the open standard for IoT low-power wide-area networks – enters a period of rapid global expansion.

Speaking on behalf of the search committee, Zenner CEO Rich Sanders explained the choice: “Alper stood out among the candidates due to his strong contributions to the development of LoRaWAN technology and deep knowledge of the market and customer requirements.”

Yegin, who brings 25 years of experience in wireless communication standards, commented: “I firmly believe that LoRaWAN is the strongest LPWAN technology in the market––and the only one that is truly able to support massive IoT today.”

Meanwhile, in a separate development highlighting LoRaWAN’s growing adoption, Cellnex UK has announced an expanded partnership with network operator Netmore to enhance the UK’s LoRaWAN coverage.

The collaboration involves installing LoRaWAN gateways on Cellnex UK’s existing streetwork sites, building upon their successful deployment across 20 sites earlier this year. The partners now plan to expand to an additional 200 locations.

Paul Stonadge, Commercial Director at Cellnex UK, said: “By leveraging our approach to sustainable asset-sharing, we are not only facilitating the rollout of Netmore’s cutting-edge technology, but we are also able to ensure efficient and targeted wireless coverage and capacity for its customers.”

The infrastructure expansion supports Netmore’s recent contract with Yorkshire Water to replace 1.3 million water metres, one of Europe’s largest LoRaWAN projects.

Dominic Murphy, Director of International Network Delivery at Netmore, added: “Cellnex UK’s innovative method of repurposing street fixtures for network deployment and densification brings substantial value to Netmore as we continually seek ways to lower network delivery costs while maintaining top-tier connectivity services.”

These developments come as the LoRa Alliance enters its third major phase of evolution, following its initial startup period and subsequent organisational development.

LoRaWAN is now positioned for widespread deployment, supported by major enterprise adoptions and increased global network availability through terrestrial, community, and satellite options.
