Based out west: CNN has announced that Elex Michaelson is joining the network as a Los Angeles-based anchor starting in the fall. Michaelson will anchor a two-hour weeknight show from midnight to 2 a.m. ET on CNN and CNN International.

Before joining CNN, Michaelson was an anchor for the Fox affiliate KTTV 11 and, prior to that, worked as a reporter at KABC-TV in Los Angeles and was a weekend morning anchor and weeknight reporter for XETV in San Diego.

New EIC: NPR has named Thomas Evans its new editor in chief. According to the outlet, Evans said that CEO Katherine Maher has tasked him with upkeeping NPR’s core journalistic mission, making sure it “won’t be lost in the mix of just dealing with all the other maelstrom that’s coming at us.” Evans was previously CNN’s vp of newsgathering and London bureau chief.
New lead in Paris: Saskya Vandoorne has been named CNN’s new Paris bureau chief. In this role, Vandoorne will be responsible for covering French and European news across all of the network’s platforms, while continuing to contribute to CNN’s international coverage. She has been at CNN since 2012 and was most recently a producer for Melissa Bell, the network’s senior international correspondent.
