Even when interest in clean technology is high, barriers such as upfront costs, housing limitations, and confusing information can get in the way. However, the shift is urgent. Households account for at least 17% of Canada’s emissions, and the country can’t meet its climate goals without widespread adoption of EVs and heat pumps. As adoption grows, prices should fall, making them more affordable for everyone while sparking further clean technology innovations.

Join us for our upcoming webinar, “How to talk to Canada’s next clean energy adopters,” organized by Re.Climate and Clean Energy Canada. This webinar is to launch Empowering Households, a new report from Clean Energy Canada in partnership with Abacus Data. Based on a 3,000-person survey in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area and Metro Vancouver, this first-of-its-kind research identifies five distinct adopter groups —from the highly motivated to those not yet interested—while uncovering what’s holding them back, what motivates them, where they get their information, and what could open the door for them to embrace clean energy solutions.

During this webinar, we’ll hear from the report authors and from clean technology experts on the top barriers preventing Canadians from adopting clean technology and key policy and communication recommendations to reach the five groups.

Our panelists:

Rachel Doran | Executive Director | Clean Energy Canada
As Clean Energy Canada’s Executive Director, Rachel brings nearly 20 years of experience in policy, politics, and law to advance clean energy solutions for Canada’s sustainable economy. Prior to joining Clean Energy Canada, Rachel occupied numerous roles in two governments, serving most recently as Senior Special Advisor on Climate and Director of Legal Affairs to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

Trevor Melanson | Communications Director | Clean Energy Canada
Trevor leads Clean Energy Canada’s communications department and has been with the organization since 2016. As part of his role, he oversees Clean Energy Canada’s public opinion research around clean energy and climate policy. Trevor also has a decade of experience as an award-winning magazine journalist. In 2024, he was the recipient of a Clean50 Emerging Leaders award.

Drew Tozer | Co-owner | Foundry Heat Pumps
Drew runs the frontend of Foundry Heat Pumps in Toronto. He is also the author of Feel-Good Homes, which is a best-selling book that teaches heat pumps and building science in simple terms. It’s an easy first step for electrification—putting homeowners on a path to transform average houses into comfortable, healthy, sustainable homes.

Cara Clairman | President and CEO | Plug N’ Drive
Cara has taken Plug’n Drive from an idea to a thriving non-profit, recognized as a leader in the EV space. Cara has more than 30 years of experience working in the environmental and sustainability fields, including 12 years working at Ontario Power Generation, initially as OPG’s environmental lawyer and later in the role Vice-President, Sustainable Development. Prior to joining OPG, Cara spent five years practicing environmental law with the Torys law firm.
