WhatsApp announced upcoming changes to its terms of service, which will prohibit users from using non-Meta AI chatbots. This means that any third-party chatbot will no longer be allowed inside the messaging app. The change goes into effect on January 15th, 2026, which is also the last date that WhatsApp Business users will be able to use ChatGPT, Copilot and any other non-Meta AI chatbot inside the messaging app.

OpenAI first announced its departure from WhatsApp last month, while Microsoft confirmed that Copilot will no longer be available inside WhatsApp earlier this week. There is a small exception for businesses that are using AI bots to serve customers on WhatsApp, which will still be allowed. ChatGPT users on WhatsApp will be able to migrate their WhatsApp chat history, while Copilot users will not be able to do so.
