With additional speakers and a better screen experience

Sky has announced the latest iteration of its Glass TV, which includes a built-in subscription, and confirmed plans for a lower-cost “Air” edition.

Sky entered the streaming TV market in 2021 with Glass, its first device to offer the full Sky experience over the internet. Glass provides access to live and on-demand programming from Sky and other providers, including Netflix.

The Glass TVs offer standard features for their class, including 4K resolution, High Dynamic Range (HDR), and a built-in soundbar, making them comparable to many mid-range options.

The second-generation Glass TV features significant audio and visual enhancements. The integrated soundbar has been upgraded with a new speaker, delivering improved sound quality, while the display panel itself is now brighter, offering a more vibrant viewing experience.

The external design remains largely unchanged, maintaining the original’s relatively bulky form factor, though Sky has managed to reduce the weight.

The new version will be available for the same price as its predecessor, starting at £599. Customers will still have the option to pay monthly.

While maintaining the three familiar size options (55″, 65″, and 75″), the new Glass TV will offer a more focused selection of colours, which are black, silver, and blue. According to Sky, this decision was based on an analysis of customer preferences, with these three hues representing the most sought-after options from the previous generation.

While the new Glass TV is available now, Sky also offered a glimpse into the future with the announcement of Sky Glass Air. This “smarter TV for less” is still some time away, with a release planned for later this year. Sky has not revealed the price, leaving potential customers to speculate about its affordability.

The Air will offer a comparable viewing experience thanks to its similar display technology. However, it will forgo the integrated soundbar and come in a smaller, less premium box. This new device will join Sky’s existing offerings, which include the main Sky Glass TV and the Sky Stream puck.

From the premium experience of the new Glass TV to the more accessible and compact Air, Sky is prioritizing choice and flexibility for consumers. Sky’s expanding product line offers something for everyone whether you’re looking for a fully integrated entertainment hub or a more streamlined streaming solution. The arrival of the Air later this year will be a key moment, revealing whether Sky can truly deliver on its promise of “smarter TV for less.”
