Clumsy people like me can’t help being that way. We have accidents, we knock into things, we tend to spill drinks, and let’s not even talk about dropping our phones. In fact, I drop things so often that my close friends have an unfortunate nickname for me: Droppy. If you identify as a “Droppy” too, I have a wonderful phone hack for you today.

As a person who drops their phone at least five times a day, I finally got tired of it. So I tried a few different things to try to fix this problem. First off, my phone is protected by a shockproof case. Both the screen and the camera unit have shatterproof screen protectors. But that doesn’t stop the dropping itself, it just shields my phone from fall damage.

Now I can’t change my unconscious habits or loose joints. It’s not like we can change or upgrade our hands and legs. The dropping itself needed to be stopped. Here’s what I did.

As common sense as it sounds, I needed to address the dropping itself. To find the best way to keep my phone from slipping out of my grasp, I made several attempts.

One of the things I did was improve the non-slip properties of my phone case, opting for something more textured and with grippier sides. Something like the Dbrand Grip Case is a fantastic example.

This isn’t a new addition, but worth mentioning. If you’re looking to stop dropping your phone like me, invest in a phone grip like a PopSocket. Having something extra to loop your fingers around takes the pressure off them. Your fingers don’t get as fatigued, reducing the chance of them loosening and dropping your phone.

While all these things helped little by little, the ultimate drop-proof hack was a specific kind of accessory.

A cross-body strap for your phone is the best drop-proof insurance policy

CASETiFY had sent me the Cursed Seal Cross-body Lanyard from their Jujutsu Kaisen Co-Lab way back in 2024. After looking it over, maybe once or twice, I put it away in a box and forgot about it. I test dozens of new accessories every week, so sometimes, some stuff gets lost in the mix.

I’m so glad I came back to the adjustable cross-body phone strap, however, because it has become my savior lately. Seriously, if you are always dropping your phone, losing it in your bag, or forgetting where you last left it, this is the perfect solution.

A sturdy strap like this has a woven card-like insert that goes into your phone case, and there are plenty of alternatives to CASETiFY readily available in the market. I found that a cross-body strap works even better than a hand strap because it’s longer, giving me more freedom of movement.

Short straps make my hands feel like they’re being strangled, and they sometimes make me smack my phone into things even more. I tend to flap my hands about a lot, phone swinging, hitting everything within my hand’s reach.

A cross-body strap goes on like any cross-body bag. You simply clip your phone to it, attaching the strap’s hook to the ring that hangs off the card insert inside the phone case. Then you can wear the strap across your body. I soon realized that if your phone is hanging by your side, you’re far less likely to swing it into something.

First off, make sure the crossbody strap has an incredibly secure lock and sturdy hook-and-loop fasteners, preferably made of solid metal. The card insert also needs to be made of a high-quality material, but it cannot be too thick, or it adds weight and bulk to your phone case. Durability is of utmost importance.

You’ve got to be able to trust this cross-body strap with your life. After all, your precious phone will be hanging on it!

The Cursed Seal Cross-body Lanyard is based on the regular Fidlock Snap Cross-body Strap from CASETiFY, so it has the same Quick-release Fidlock Snap 2.0 buckle. This is a magnetic lock that only opens sideways. It’s so secure, I broke a nail trying to undo it the first time (RIP dear fingernail).

CASETiFY also added a rotating metal carabiner to the cross-body lanyard, leaving room for charms, keys, Bluetooth trackers, and anything else of the sort with an eyelet or a keyring.

Bottom line is, if you’re clumsy, please get yourself one of these

If you’re a Jujutsu Kaisen fan like me, I’m sorry to tell you that the Cursed Seal Cross-body Lanyard from the 2024 Jujutsu Kaisen collection is out of stock. You could get the Fidlock Snap Cross-body Strap instead. CASETiFY also has plenty of other collaborations with all your favorite pop culture franchises. These feature diverse designs and materials.

While the cross-body phone straps from CASETiFY look really cool and come in metal chains and chic variations, they’re also pricey, starting off at $33. Budget hunters can go for more affordable brands like Ringke and Spigen, which offer the same thing at the $20 mark, if you want something cheaper.

Ringke is probably my favorite, thanks to its simplicity, affordability, and stunning ombré color options. I’ve already placed an order for the Ringke Holder Link & Snap Hook Lanyard Strap in the blue and pink Aurora variant.

The bottom line is, you can find a cross-body phone strap with a card at really accessible prices. If you’re a clumsy person, please order one for yourself to cure your accidental phone-dropping problem.

Style meets function

At half the cost of the strap from CASETiFY, the Ringke Holder Link & Snap Hook Lanyard Strap is a bombastic deal. It comes in almost a dozen assorted colors and patterns. You get a matching card insert as well. The Korean brand assures that the nylon and copper materials used are durable and lightweight.

Lock in

Available in Black and Mulberry, the CASETiFY Fidlock Snap Cross-body Strap uses an excellent magnetic locking system that is durable and secure. It is impossible to accidentally unlock it and drop your phone. The entire strap is durable, from the fibers of the strap to the woven card insert and the metallic clips and clasps.
