Keysight Technologies, a manufacturer of electronics test and measurement equipment, has unveiled its N99xxD-Series FieldFox Handheld Analyser, the next instalment in the company’s FieldFox offerings. The new D-Series enables 120MHz gap-free IQ streaming, field-to-lab integration, and high-speed data transfer, providing wideband signal analysis in the most demanding radio frequency (RF) settings.

The release comes as RF environments are becoming increasingly complex with the convergence of various systems like 5G and satellite communications. Where traditional handheld analysers are limited by streaming speed and bandwidth, the new D-Series analyser offers faster troubleshooting, deeper analysis, and more precise data collection. Ultimately, users will benefit from full visibility and control over signal events, both live and after the fact.

Eric Taylor, general manager and vice president of Keysight aerospace, defence, and government solutions, said, “With high-speed interfaces, gap-free streaming, and secure Linux operations, the new FieldFox D-Series redefines portable RF analysis – bringing capabilities like signal sensing, geolocation, and spectrum management into a rugged handheld platform.”

“Its software-defined architecture lets users add new capabilities onsite, giving them flexibility to move faster and be ‘first-to-market’.”

N99xxD-Series FieldFox handheld analyser key capabilities

Keysight’s N99xxD-Series analyser supports 120-MHz IQ streaming via integrated SFP+ high speed interfaces, providing 10 GbE data transfer. It enables wideband signal analysis and playback, so users can monitor how spectrum is being used and identify sources of interference.

The device also delivers a very high RF performance, with an absolute amplitude accuracy of ±0.1 dB at power-on, without the need for any warm-up period. It consists of 14 separate models, each available as combination analysers or standalone spectrum analysers. The have maximum frequency options of 14, 18, 26.5, 32, 44, 50, and 54 GHz.

Every model is capable of running more than 25 software-defined FieldFox applications, enabling vector network analysis, electromagnetic interference (EMI) analysis, real-time spectrum analysis, direction-finding via techniques like TDoA and AoA, pulse signal generation, and Noise figure measurements. Designed with a Linux operating system, security is strengthened, and file handling is improved, while the touchscreen interface improves usability and reduces operator errors.

The operating system strengthens security and improves file handling, while the touchscreen interface enhances usability, increases operational efficiency, and reduces operator error.

The D-Series can accurately classify key wireless standards like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and LTE with its wideband signal capture and machine learning model (S9916A), thus reducing time-to-resolution and enabling more detailed insight into crowd spectrum settings.

With a high-precision, high-speed architecture, Keysight’s N99xxD-Series FieldFox handheld analyser provides engineers with the tools required to navigate increasingly dense and complex RF environments.
