Javier Morgado is joining Tegna as its vice president of content.
Morgado will oversee the company’s stations in the northeast and will lead morning news strategy across the company’s 64 stations
“Truly grateful to our CEO Mike Steib and Adrienne Roark for tapping me to join their leadership team,” he wrote on social media. “I am overjoyed to partner with my fellow VPs Carol Fowler, Julie Wolfe, Chris Peña & Michael Valentine to shape the future of local news.”
Morgado last worked at CNN as executive producer of the former afternoon news program, At This Hour. He joined the network in 2011 as a senior broadcast producer. Before that, he spent more than a decade at NBC, first at owned station WTVJ in Miami and then as the supervising broadcast producer for NBC’s Today.
Morgado joins Tegna at a time when Nexstar wants to buy the station group in a cash transaction valued at $6.2 billion
