It’s been a while since we heard from Amazon’s Eero, its mesh networking arm. The company announced it’s finally launching two new WiFi 7 compatible routers for the home: the Eero 7 and the Eero Pro 7, both with specific taglines. The Eero 7 is the cheapest, starting at $170 for one node. The Eero Pro 7 starts at $300 and is more fit for massive, multi-streaming households. I’m talking about places where content is made, like TikTok houses. Do they still have those?

The Eero 7 is the first-tier entry into Amazon’s networking family. It’s a dual-band system router supporting the standard 2.4 and 5 GHz networks. Eero promises wireless speeds up to 1.8 Gbps and wired speeds up to 2.3 Gbps over a compatible ethernet cable. Amazon touts a compact form factor that “can easily fit on bookshelves, entertainment centers, and desks.” Being cute and unassuming is the company’s signature move. The Eero 7 is for all spaces, big and small. A single unit covers up to 2,000 square feet, while a three-pack extends to 6,000 square feet—a set of three costs about $350.

The Eero Pro 7 is for houses and businesses with considerable broadband demands. The way Amazon describes this model sounds like it would cater to mansions accommodating a dozen social media influencers. I digress. The Eero Pro 7 is a tri-band router with 2.5, 5, and 6 GHz connections. Amazon says the Eero Pro 7 reaches wireless speeds of up to 3.9 Gbps. If you’re one of the few paying for multi-gigabit internet—as is the case of a building housing internet creators—this mesh is for you.

The Eero 7 and Eero Pro 7 join the existing Eero Max 7 and Eero Outdoor 7—yes, that’s what it’s called—which the company launched in 2023. Back then, boy, was it a different time. WiFi 7 was still a nascent concept. WiFi 6 was still rolling out in some cases, with WiFi 6E barely catching on.

Should you upgrade to WiFi 7 right now? Only if your internet speeds call for it. WiFi 7 offers better latency and the handling of multiple online connections across numerous bands simultaneously. It also increases the capacity of the number of streams at once, which is why I think about internet influencer farmhouses. I don’t think that’s what Amazon intended when developing the new Eero 7, but it will probably be used that way, especially at an affordable price. The devices are for sale next week.
